ABOUT THE HOME
At the edge of the grounds of what was once known as James J. Hill’s Hotel Lafayette, this quaint cottage sits, transformed from the inside out - while retaining its old world charm. The original character of this 1890’s era cottage survived, but to modernize and upgrade the home extensive changes were made. A re-design of the lower level floor plan included relocating the kitchen and starting from scratch with new cabinetry, countertops, and appliances. New windows were installed throughout the home, including along the back wall of the kitchen and in the living room, greatly enhancing the natural light throughout the lower level. A new powder room was added, and the laundry room was moved upstairs. A fireplace and custom mantel were added to the living room. A trio of windows were added to the stairwell that was completely re-built and beautified. A link to connect the detached garage to the home was constructed, with a new mud room and hallway. The primary bedroom upstairs was transformed with french doors, a wood-paneled ceiling, built-in shelving and enlarged windows. Bathrooms were also remodeled extensively. An electrical systems upgrade was done (formerly knob & tube), as well as restored hardwood flooring, a substantial landscape re-design, and new exterior siding and trim.
